Lately I have been confronted with the question of what size paintings look best in certain places.
There are a few rules that are easy to follow and that make paintings look better in our homes.
1. If you hang a painting over a sofa, bed or chest of drawers, the painting should take up about ½ to 2/3 the width of the piece of furniture. This rule also applies when several paintings of the same size are hung next to each other. In addition, the distance between the piece of furniture and the painting should be about 10-20cm.
2. If 2 paintings of the same size are hung next to each other, they should be 5-10cm apart, in no case more than 15cm.
3. The center of a painting on the wall should usually be about 140-150cm away from the floor… .this is about eye level.
4.If several paintings of the same size are hung on top of each other, the centre of both paintings should be at this height.
5. In summary, it can be said ... it is always better to hang up larger paintings than smaller ones. Go big or go home 😉
Hope this helped a bit in choosing the appropriate locations for your paintings. Have fun decorating!
